Here is a new circuit to discover this preserved destination with many natural and cultural assets. Volcanoes, lush forests and colonial cities standings all along the road during this journey. You will learn a lot about the story of this country from the spanish domination, to the gold diggers of Santo Domingo without forgetting its traditions and customs.

Your day by day program

Late arrival in Nicaragua

A local guide will be waiting for you at the International Airport Augusto Cesar Sandino. Transfer to the nearby hotel and welcome meeting, introduction and general orientation of the trip by the guide.

Matagalpa the coffee lands and sustainable farming

After breakfast you will drive for two hours in a comfortable van to the mountain city of Matagalpa where you will get the motorcycles that will be using for the coming 8 days.
By a short ride into the mountains you arrive at Selva Negra hotel and La Hammonia coffee estate, a farm famous for its diversity and the sustainable way of farming. On a tour around the farm you will get to know how efficient this mostly organic farm is.

Biking through a special mountain scenery

In the morning you can do a hike through the cloud forest which is the habit of a large variety of flora and fauna like the famous Resplendent Quetzal.
Today´s ride will go through a beautiful mountain area with visits to the city of Jinotega, viewpoints on lake Apanas and on to our destination: the city of Estelí, the capital of high quality cigar production.

Colonial history and the revolution in León

Today you will drive towards the Pacific side of Nicaragua, where the Maribios volcanoes are lined up. Many of them are active. At the volcanic mud fields of San Jacinto you can experience this activity closely. After arrival at the hotel in the second city of Nicaragua you will tour the colonial center of town full of architectural and historical sites of interest. Mainly out of times of the Sandinista revolution, the many mural paintings remember to this turbulent times in recent history of Nicaragua.

Sandboarding the volcano and the Pacific ocean

In the early morning you will be driving to the active Cerro Negro volcano. As this is one of the smallest volcanoes on the continent you can hike up to the top in an hour. After a great view from the top it´s time for action: Sliding down the volcanic slope of black sand on a board!

We will ride towards the pacific beach of Las Peñitas to meet the ocean on the western side of Nicaragua and enjoy some good fresh fish at one of the restaurants, go for a swim or try some surfing.

Ruins of the old León and the new capital

You leave behind León to visit the ruins of the old León right on the lake of Xolotlán with a great view on volcano Momotombo. Riding on towards the capital, Managua brings you to a city destroyed by the big 1972 earthquake. The old center was never rebuild but does has some interesting sites and stories about the times of the revolution. The ride continues into the mountains to the quiet town of Diriamba. The cradle of Gueguense, the cultural expression of the Indians towards the Spaniards.

To the colonial Granada

Cruising through the central pacific area you will see picturesque villages of Masatepe, San Juan de Oriente and Catarina where many artisans make fine handmade furniture and pottery.

Masaya volcano and ride to the east

On the first ride towards the east coast you will visit the accessible crater of the active Masaya volcano. For the indigenous people this was a holy place where they connected with the gods of the earth. Juigalpa is the city at the foot of the Amerisque mountains where many and also some big companies came in the search of gold.

Cowboy country and the Caribbean Coast

On our last ride of this trip you will visit the local guiriseros who are searching for gold and other precious metals in the town of Santo Domingo and then continue the ride in the Caribbean lowlands until El Rama, where the paved road ends and you continue by boat on the Escondido river to the Caribbean town of Bluefields. This is a whole different Nicaragua then at the Pacific side. The people here are mostly Creole.

Flight to Corn Island

This morning you will take a plane on a short flight to Big Corn Island. The island is easy going and actually not that big, so you can get around on foot or in taxi´s.
The hotel is situated between town and the island main beaches. Activities like snorkeling or diving are optional.

The Corn Island

A full day to enjoy the hotel, beaches around the Island, go snorkeling or diving or make a full day visit to Little Corn Island.

Flight from Corn Island back to Managua

You will fly out back to Managua this afternoon.

The airport shuttle will bring you to airport, a 5 minutes drive from the hotel.
